Baby's room

Baby C's room is slowly coming together!

Last Monday night we went out to the garage and gave this awesome dresser a makeover!

It has been in the garage for over 2 years and need to be scrubbed clean, sanded down in a few spots and painted for the baby!

I am super grateful Kade was there; otherwise I would have made this process super duper lengthy.

You can see the Orignal color left on the inside and at the bottom.

About 3.5 hours later, it is the right color and already in his room!

I have since loaded it full with all the adorable clothes and diapers we have! Waiting is getting harder!

Count down is now at.. 10 weeks and 6 days to go!

Now.... just to paint the crib!

Decorating

Hey there!

So I have been promising to a few people I would post some of these for you all to see.

A few things:
I profess to not be anything close to good at this, I simply copy and combine from things I have seen and like.... Second: The pillows are frumpy and you can't see the mess that is my apartment... (Those side tables have never looked so clean!) Lastly: Our apartment has all these weird "little walls" and corners and windows, it fun to decorate but also hard to place things, and I am sure there are better ways to make this place look, but for now its perfect!

I love artwork and picture frames. Also, we are avid readers which causes books to be everywhere... So they are in almost every area of the house. In fact, I am grateful for my new shelves in our bedroom we put up them today, because I can finally have more space in my drawers for new books!

I saw these ideas on Pinterest and wanted to do something like them in our bedroom.

said Idea number one
I really liked the vases empty nothing special just great color, and the books of course

said Idea number two
I loved!!! the large letters and the shelf in this one, it was just warm and cozy.

said Idea number three
Last I loved the height dynamics in this, ( yes I know its not over a bed) I also loved the plants; surprise!

So this is what I came up with...

I think I will eventually hang the large{empty} gold frame and place a plant right underneath it.
The plate and the vase are from our recent trip to Mexico. The vase with the ranunculus is from my room growing up.. Thanks Mom! The K & H are from Hobby Lobby ( which I am not sure whether to love that place or keep my wallet away) the plaque and gold frame are from there as well. The shelves are target.

The next project was a surprise project. Everywhere I have travelled my mom and I have always gotten watercolors from, its a tradition. Sometimes I branch out and get oil paintings or when the paintings aren't available, I buy postcards. So my brothers and I have these framed collections that have been in our childhood rooms and grow each year.
Well, when I went to Europe in 2010 I brought home a ton of watercolors! and the surprise of the project is that my mom, had them framed for us for a Christmas present this last year.
I have 17 framed and 20 total.

I have always wanted a gallery wall of all the watercolors to the places I have travelled. So of course I jump on pinterest to check out some hanging ideas and I found these

Left to right: Greece, Italy(Roma), France(Paris), Italy(roma), Italy(Roma), Hawaii, Czech Republic  (Prague), Italy(Roma), Italy(Venice), Florida(Sanibel Island), France(Paris), Italy(Florence), ItalyVenice), Austria(Salzburg), Italy(Tuscany)
on the top of our TV bookcase is my textbooks from college, a sketch my grandparents gave me of a door in georgetown virginia, our internet router, more ranunculus, and the moss B from our wedding.

These are our wedding pictures, I wanted to display them where we could remember, but they weren't the center of attention,  "hey this is us. We are awesome. So stare at us while you are here!"
Remember earlier when I said lots of little walls?? proof.

This last area was kinda of hard, as you can see its a really short wall with lots of odd placements of ordinary apartment life items. It's another patchwork of frames, old photos of the two of us, and some of our favorite memories. I love these little shelves I had them in my room growing up and they were perfect for this little wall.

So those are a few of my decorated areas and ideas, please feel free to steal them.
Few things I learned:
Decorating with books is always a great way to store them and give you some extra height.
Make it personal. Always no matter what you are the one who has to look at it all the time.
and if you don't like it, then change it. to whatever when ever, its never permanent!

that's it for now!
Catch you later,

My family came up and we went to the byu homecoming game. It had been 50 years since my grandpa had played on this field... It was pretty cool!

So I really don't get into halloween. I don't like the creepy scary stuff, but I love Fall! I made a wreath last fall and still love it!

Here are much promised shots of our place here, we sure love it! ( ignore the picture quality taken with my phone)

So we got this frame set at our wedding, and until two weeks ago, it had an asian couple in the pictures, but I finally got around to changing it!!!

I have also started my Christmas decoration shopping and crafts:) loved this sign, it really embodies Christmas.
Also have the bare minimum done of my new christmas wreath.

Moving and Organizing.

So I have been preparing to move and if anyone out there is doing the same here are some things I have done hope they help!

via

First thing:

Plan out your moving day:

know what is being loaded first, know the method you are using (ie budget truck, u hall, professional help or the back of your car) know the deals on the methods, the price and plan ahead for it all to work out.

We are using budget trucks, because that for us is much cheaper then uhall, and we don't have to over work our car to get our stuff to our new home. I typed in budget truck coupons to google and came out on top with a 25% of coupon to use when checking out. Be resourceful its helpful!

Second thing:

Make a binder, buy a divided portfolio, use a folder, what ever you choose place the following items in, and place a copy or scan in a second binder etc.

Birth Certificates
Social Security Cards
Passorts
Car titles
Marriage License
Insurance contracts
Housing contracts
Job contracts
Recent pictures of your family

Yes, I know what you are thinking, that is dangerous to have all that information in one place. But here is my opinion. I used a binder and have scanned copies on my computer, "just in case," but f worse comes to worse your house burns down, a family member goes missing, your moving truck gets stolen, the papers that prove you are you are on hand and can be used. I have mine tucked away in a special place where I know someone would think it would be the last place to look. Overall I am comforted knowing I know exactly where everything is.

Third thing:

you cannot pack in an organized manner if your house is a mess. PURGE!

Determining what goes and what stays: Since I hate throwing things away because of these 3 words "just in case" I made some basic rules to stick to.

if I haven't touched it in a year, it has to go.
if it doesn't serve a meaningful purpose (ie: a used old piece of paper) Throw it out
if I want to keep it, it has to fit, if not it goes

Fourth thing:

make an inventory list
doing this insures:

a. that you know what it is you own
b. that you know what you have duplicates of and can get rid of ( ie yard sale, Donate, garage, returns)

This gives you the opportunity to make a list of what is in each box and have a master packing list, with the amount of boxes, where they go and what was in them. It comes in handy if you move a lot you know what fits in each box and what to pack in them, it helps to find things when you are moving in, it is also helpful to locate a lost box, or actually know that a box is in fact missing.

My packing list is labeled and my boxes are numbered. I have seen it many ways, rooms are color coded ( blue bedroom,  red kitchen) whatever you choose just make it work best for you.

Fifth Thing:

Pack room by room

this helps the inventory list, keeping it organized but most important helps the cleaning process!
once the room is packed, clean it shut the door and move to the next room. it will help the process move slowly to one room/ area and can be easier to load from there.

Sixth thing:

As you are packing leave out the following items to go in their own box:

Toilet paper
Bathroom cleaning supplies
A shower curtain
Towels
quick snacks and water
a flashlight
air mattress
blankets or sleeping bags

This list ensure that you have the very minimal things it takes to stay over night in your new place the first night. It is beneficial to have them set aside so you know it has been taken care of, and puts your mind to rest knowing you can at least sleep and shower.

Additionally this whole process helps you become more organized with what's in your homes, what needed a better form or organization for your new place, and helps you get rid of the clutter. It feels like a material detox, and if you are like me and love organization, its heavenly. I hope this helps anyone out there moving:)

DIY Refashion

Hey there so we are having fun not having a lot to do over here. Kade has been riding his motorcycle/dirt bike (still not sure what to call it) basically chance he can. I have been following a bunch of different blogs and pins about refashions( taking old clothing and making a few changes to update it) so here is my first attempt. I saw this idea, and remembered this dress I had that shrunk in the wash (major bummer) so I decided it would be my first try. So the first view:
Please excuse photo quality!

as you can see the length is awkward.

its also sleeveless which is hard in the summer when it gets so hot.

So, with the scissors, I left three inches on the bottom ruffle, and took the remaining fabric to make sleeves. It took me a little while to figure out the sleeves ( I watched a tutorial earlier in the day) and just made it up as I went, so the seem lines aren't the best and it was my first time ever. I would say to watch any tutorial on you tube there are some really good ones. I also used the pre existing seem from the bottom of the dress, to avoid having to sewing more than necessary. Here is the final product:

thats it for now tell me what you think!
dresses first appearance, worn with jean vest, Grecian sandals.
