Monday June 29th
I woke up, ran to work for a quick half an hour ,then left for my Weekly Dr Appointment. When I got in, they checked my vitals and my blood pressure was 148/90, the normal range is 110/70-12/70.
My doctor came in and I wasn't going to get checked for dilation but with my blood pressure so high he thought it was a good idea. So we went ahead and checked baby, then me. I had dilated to a 1 from my last appointment.
Then he went ahead and explained that if my blood pressure didn't come down, and I was considered term at 37 weeks, he would induce me today to avoid any complications with baby. I was a bit caught off guard, to say the least. So he sent the nurse back in and she checked my blood pressure 154/98. I was then told to come back in 4 hours and be rechecked.
After talking with Kade and my Boss, I decided to just stay in Idaho Falls at Kade's work until 3 when I needed to be rechecked. I spent the next four hours a bit panicked! I hadn't packed for the hospital, our house was a mess and I needed to take the trash out( haha kinda of silly now). So I called my mom and let her know, I could be having a baby ASAP and 3 weeks early. Luckily, my mom, dad, Walker and Jackson were in Utah for the week. Bennett and Connor had flown home with my dad for Sunday and stayed in CA.
I went back to the doctors at 3 and I knew before I got there, we were going to the hospital. The nurse called me back and checked my blood pressure, 149/90. The doctor came in explained the process of induction and the need for it. Then called the hospital and got a check in time for me, 7 pm.
I left in a bit of a daze, I called Kade and my mom. Then drove home to Rexburg to pack Kade and I up and grab the baby stuff. My sweet friend Laura came over and helped me clean up the house real quick, Kade came home from work and we left.
When we got there they gave us the biggest room and started the cytotech right at 8 pm. I had a dose every four hours from then until 8am the next morning. I also got an sleeping pill:) and was out until 8 or so that morning.
Tuesday:
When the came in at 8am that morning, it was the nurse, and my doctor. The nurse put my IV in( it hurt soooo bad!) The doctor checked and I was only at a 2.... it was kinda of depressing. All night long, the monitor for contractions stopped picking them up and Carson kept moving so we couldn't pick up his heart rate. We started pitocin,
My family left Utah for Idaho around 8 or so. I told them not to hurry..since I was only at a 2.
At 12:30ish -1 My doctor came back. I was at a 16 out of 20 for the pitocin... and was really hoping I had progressed more. So he checked me and I was only at a 4. At this point He decided to break my water and place an internal catheter/monitor for the contractions since the monitor was picking them up.
So then, came the waiting game. My Mom, Dad, Jackson, and Walker got there around 2 pm. It was a long day not being able to eat! I liked the Banana ice chips best.
Around 5 pm or so, I could start to feel contractions( I have been having them all day consistently and had no idea! ) They didn't hurt at all, but I could feel myself get really tired after having one. Being fairly honest , I am an angry angry tired person, and sorta agitated when in pain. So with that in mind I decided to get an epidural. More so that I could sleep and be alert and happy when Carson got here.
They came in at 5:45 and my family left to go get dinner and go to a movie. I did not want to see or hear about anything needle wise from him. So I got all ready and he put it in and I never saw it( which was blissful). The only problem was it only worked on my right side. So he came back in and gave me an extra dose ... it felt like he was spilling something down my back when he put it in...and it worked then knocked me out. During the time in which he came in my doctor came in to check on me at 6 still at a 4. Then he came back at 8 and I was still at a 4 and could barely keep my eyes open. Around 10 the epidural medication hit my system pretty hard and my heart rate and blood pressure dropped as well as Carson's. So they pulled back on the pictocin, and took my all the way down to a 2 again.
Wednesday 7.1.15
During the next few hours they kept placing me in all these strange midwife recommended position to encourage labor. Then around 1:30 the epidural wore off and I could feel this terrible dull pain. So I called the nurse, who came in and asked me "why I hadn't push the button?" I asked, "what button? " ... they had forgotten to give me one! so they had to start the drugs all over again. So a new anesthesiologist came in and gave me a whole new vial of drugs, which then made me throw up so badly they put my on oxygen because I couldn't catch my breath.
The nurse came in around 4:30 and I had dilated to a 10 while sleeping. It was music to my ears, but my cervix still was in the way a bit. Then she said, " Your mom is on the phone and I am having it transferred in here." So I picked up the phone to my moms surprise and told her that the nurse had called the doctor and that we were going to start pushing in an hour.
Everything went so quickly from then. I had to practically yell at Kade to get him awake. He had slept through everything up until this point. He got up got showered and dressed.
At 5:30 our sweet nurse started to set everything up and get ready to go. At 6:40 I started to push. My contractions were about 5 mins apart.
the Epidural had been wearing off again, and when I pressed the button, I would wait about 10 mins, then I would throw up again.... not fun.
I was throwing up pretty convulsively around 7:40 and those are the same muscles for pushing a baby out ... He was coming fast and I wasn't even pushing!
At 7:45 I looked at the doctor and said," Can I push, Is it time?" He said "sure" I pushed and Carson came out at 7:46am.
So 37 hours of labor later... Carson Kade Bailey 5lbs 14ounces 20.5 inches long entered this world, perfectly.
During this whole pregnancy, Kade had not wanted to hear any details of labor and it kind of grossed him out. While pushing he wanted to watch and then the Doctor asked him if he wanted to cut the cord and Kade said "Yes." which I followed up with, " I am on drugs" which everyone in the room laughed about , because it was literally true.
I saw his little face and heard him cry. Then they placed him on my tummy and I saw his hand shoot up out of the blanket, I thought to myself" its my hand! he is my baby He is perfect"
It has been the hardest month of my life but the most rewarding and I would not trade it for the world.
Welcome to the world little boy. We are so grateful for you!
